The Society's roots start in 1959 when the Methodist Chapels of Kippax were amalgamating. It was suggested that the youth groups of the chapels get together to give a concert at the first United Gift Day, with John Green in charge.

John selected the music, played the Piano, wrote the sketches and produced the raw but willing cast into the slick and polished revue 'Natural Break' and the Society was born. Pantomimes and revues followed, and in 1963 the first musical comedy 'Desert Song' was performed on a tiny stage in the chapel school room with a seating capacity of 150. David Charlston had been enlisted as Musical Director and he and John became a successful partnership which continued until 1983 when David retired from his position.

After many sell out shows, it was obvious that the Society needed venue with better facilities and a larger seating capacity. St Mary's Church Hall with 250 seats provided the venue for two musicals, but was not the ideal solution.

In 1970, the Civic Centre became our permanent home and over 200,000 people have attended the 32 musical comedies, 28 pantomimes and numerous cabaret evenings over the years.

The Society achieved national fame when the 1977 show programme for Orpheus in the Underworld, edited by Mike Lightowler and Colin Ransome, won the NODA Waterford Crystal Trophy for the best souvenir programme in Great Britain. This success was repeated with the 1979 'Mame' and the 1980 'White Horse Inn' programmes.

In 2004 the Society was invited to provide the Cabaret for the North East NODA weekend in Bridlington. The society gave the packed audience a fantastic cabaret and received rave reviews afterwards from both friends and rivals in the amateur theatre world.

In 2009, The Castleford Phoenix Theatre in Airedale, only 5 minutes up the road from the Civic Centre. This has become our New home due to circumstances beyond our control at the Castleford civic Centre. We have recently presented a fantastic cabaret at the new venue and look forward to presenting out 2010 traditional family pantomime “Cinderella”
